In 2007, German car manufacturing giant Volkswagen held talks with Proton over a possible cooperation in building cars together. The two companies were close to a possible tie-up but talks were brought to a sudden close in November 2007 when the Malaysian government said it was no longer seeking a foreign partner.

The rendering that I have made is to illustrate what are the possibilities of Proton in incorporating its current design to an already existing Volkswagen vehicles. In 1994, Proton launched the first generation Satria, which is a rebadged Mitsubishi Mirage/Colt. Since then, Proton Satria becomes an iconic car towards Malaysians especially youngsters as the car is highly associated with racing.

For this project, I used Volkswagen Scirocco as the donor vehicle to illustrate how the third generation Proton Satria Neo could look like. The current Scirocco and Satria shares several characteristics that may appeal to Malaysian consumers; the low-slung body, sporty shape and nimble handling. The design for the third generation Satria took inspirations of the familiar 'face' of the current Satria Neo, the current modern automotive design, and the VW brand itself.
